Celtic’s Yuki Kobayashi might be on his way back to Japan as reports indicate that J-League side Kashima Antlers are interested in the centre-back.

Kobayashi, who joined Celtic under former manager Ange Postecoglou, has found it challenging to secure a place in the team, failing to make any appearances last season.

Now, according to Japanese outlet Football Tribe, Kashima Antlers have placed Kobayashi on their list of potential signings as they look to bolster their defensive options.

The manager has expressed his desire to bring another centre back to the club, fearing suspension or injury to his current pairing.

He was hyped up before his arrival, with some even saying he could be the future of the Japan national team, but he’s not lived up to these expectations.

Kobayashi was linked to a J-League return in the January window.

The exit move could offer Kobayashi a chance to revive his career in his home country after a disappointing spell in Scotland. If the transfer goes through, it could provide both the player and Celtic an opportunity to move forward from what has been an underwhelming spell.
