IT’S hard for us to be objective on this one so we put it up on a poll to get a sense of where the Celtic fans stand with Mikael Lustig.
The defender has been at Celtic since 2012 and has been a fantastic servant to the club.
Not only that but Lustig has bought in big time to Celtic and the passion he exudes during games along with his humour have made him a genuine fan favourite over the years.
In the last two seasons, there has been a gradual decline in his performances leaving many to wonder how long the player can last the pace in a Brendan Rodgers side that demands the very best when it comes to physical fitness and stamina.
We put it to the Celtic fans and over 3,000 voted on the subject. We were quite surprised by the results when we asked if Lustig should be offered a new deal past his current contract which ends this summer.
The vote was 65% in favour of him leaving once his current deal is up!

Many commented underneath they would personally give the Swede a new deal and have him back up for a new emerging right back to come in – much like Izaguirre is there for Tierney.
Even the people voting yes are not blind to the player’s declining ability but a lot still believe the right-back has a role to play on and off the field.
If Celtic do bring a right back in, personally we’d like to see Mikael stay and play back up.
