CHRIS SUTTON took to his RecordSport column this weekend to declare Arsenal are mocking Scottish football with their derisory bid for Kieran Tierney.
Referring to Arsenal’s first £15m bid, the Englishman came across as incensed when he spoke about how low the bid was considering the talent Kieran Tierney possesses coupled with the crazy money floating around down in the English Premier League.
The former Celtic striker always talks up and promotes the Scottish game and it is frustrating for him to see players be sold for less than they’re worth. Some of the examples Sutton referred to like Virgil van Dijk and Moussa Dembele were spot on. Celtic sold for what people thought was a fair price but in reality, Celtic were shortchanged with Virgil going onto becoming the most expensive defender in football and Dembele at least worth double of the £19m Lyon paid.
There’s no doubt if Kieran moved to the Premier League his valuation would sky rocket also and Celtic should be making sure they get a top price for their defender.
“They (Celtic) should not be having to accept derisory offers such as £15m from Arsenal for a player who is of equal ability.
“Whatever way you look at it and however you see the level of the Scottish league, it’s nigh-on impossible to get to a final figure of £15m.
“It’s mocking Scottish football. It’s scornful to Celtic and disrespectful to the player.”
Do you agree?
