As a result of his terrific upturn in form for Celtic, Liam Scales was called up to the Ireland squad for the October internationals. The centre-back ended up making his debut for his country, a proud personal moment.
Although Ireland lost at home to Greece, the 25-year-old was pleased to have made his international bow. He said (Virgin Media Sport): “I enjoyed it. It’s been a dream to play for my country since I was young, it’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to do so to achieve it, it’s brilliant on a personal level but it’s obviously a disappointing result.”

He was called up to Ireland squads previously but had never got a minute on the park. Now he has, though, which was hugely positive.
Scales deserved his cap and he will be hoping for another on Monday night when Ireland travel to take on Gibraltar. Stephen Kenny wants his country to bounce back after Friday’s loss, and once more, the defender may well begin alongside former Celt Shane Duffy in the backline.
