Celtic fans travelling to Bergamo for tomorrow’s Champions League match have been hit with an alcohol restriction from local Italian authorities.
Aiming to bounce back from a dismal 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on matchday two of the league phase, the Bhoys face an in-form Atalanta side who have won three out of their last three.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are finding form at the perfect time, with the Hoops up next.
Celtic have been allocated 1,300 away tickets for tomorrow’s fixture, but supporters who have or are making the trip might find it difficult to find drinks of their taste.
Indeed, all sales of alcoholic drinks above five per cent in strength have been banned by local Italian authorities.
Drinks won’t be served in glasses or glass bottles, either.
The Municipality of Bergamo recently issued a public notice on the matter. It read [Glasgow Times]:
“To safeguard public order and safety and to protect the city’s artistic heritage, it is prohibited for establishments serving drinks and food, private clubs, commercial activities in public areas, the serving inside and sale for takeaway of alcoholic drinks with a content higher than five per cent.
“In restaurants, the consumption of alcoholic drinks is permitted provided that this occurs at the same time as the immediate consumption of food and only within the premises.
“Furthermore, no alcoholic drinks can be served in glass or similar containers.”
The restriction kicks in tomorrow at 9am Italian time and runs until 6am Italian time, the morning after the game.
While the changes in regulations are frustrating, they won’t significantly dampen the travelling supporters’ usual chipper mood.
Celtic fans aren’t entirely confident of getting a result tomorrow, but those making the trip over will enjoy themselves and the experience regardless of the eventual scoreline.
