Celtic defender Liam Scales has revealed what he thinks about the Rangers’ claims that Philippe Clement’s side should have been awarded a penalty in the 93rd minute of extra time.
With a free kick awarded on the edge of the Celtic box after Vaclav Cerny and Scales pulled each other’s jerseys, some in the Scottish media have been desperate to make excuses for Celtic’s win on penalties.
Former referee Bobby Madden also chimed in, incredibly saying it should have been a penalty, despite Cerny being closer to the edge than the actual line of the box, with the Czech winger himself pulling Scales in the lead-up to the foul.
Scales said: (The Celtic Way), “I thought it was outside the box. I haven’t watched it back, so I can’t really tell you.
“At the time, I thought it was outside and there were no complaints at the time. We just got on with the game. I’m sure they looked at it upstairs.”

Considering the fact that referee John Beaton and VAR officials Alan Muir and Frank Connor all believed it to be nothing more than a free kick, it suggests the right call was certainly made.
Scales was booked, with Cerny himself moving away from the box in a clear sign that it was a free kick and not a penalty.
However, those like former Rangers winger Neil McCann made sure to suggest it should have been a penalty post-match, instead of praising Celtic for a hard-fought win.
