SCOTT BROWN has told Celtic fans he and the players will be out for revenge on Cluj come Thursday and he has his own demons to put to bed after his crazy hand ball moment gave the away side the impetus during the ill-fated Champions League qualifier.
The Celtic captain uncharacteristically had a moment of madness and stuck his hand out to block a ball which was about to fall to a Cluj player inside the Celtic box. They were awarded a penalty and it set them on their way to knock the Scottish Champions out of the Champions League.
“I think we owe them one to be perfectly honest — and especially me.” Scott Brown told SunSport.
“In the last match I gave away a hand ball, and that is not like me. It was just one of those freak moments.
“Is it still in the back of my mind? There’s a LOT in the back of my mind! There’s a big book there! But you don’t dwell on it too long.
“The good thing about football is that there is another game three or four days later where you can go out there and prove everyone wrong.
“We’re in a good place just now — but we were in a good place before the Champions League game as well.
“It was just one sloppy game where we probably didn’t perform as well as we should have.
“It was a disappointing performance but we are in the Europa League now, and we’ve got Cluj yet again.
“We know how they play and they know how we play. It’s going to be a good game.”
This time around, both are sitting in the Europa League and it’s not knockout football. Celtic know they are good enough to beat Cluj on their day – especially at home and want to make sure they know it was a fluke.
Dan Petrescu and his men rubbed salt in the wounds of Celtic at the time as they all did the huddle at Celtic Park and milked the moment. Perhaps they would have refrained from doing so if they knew they’d be back so soon.
Celtic got a terrific result in France against Rennes during match-day one and Cluj shocked Lazio to take all three points from the Italian’s.
It should be a cracker at Celtic Park
