In a new episode of the Official Celtic FC Podcast recorded from the club’s training base in Portugal, Kieran Tierney opened up on his return to Celtic, reflecting on his career journey and what it means to be back in green and white.

“It was always a matter of when, not if,” Kieran Tierney said, speaking on his comeback.
Tierney, who came through the Celtic Academy and made over 170 appearances for the first team before leaving for Arsenal in 2019, admitted the transition back has been smooth. His familiarity with manager Brendan Rodgers and the club’s ethos made settling in easier than any of his previous moves.
With former teammates like Callum McGregor and James Forrest still central to the squad, the sense of continuity has helped him pick up right where he left off. Tierney praised McGregor’s leadership qualities, saying he always saw the captain as someone destined to take on the role. He also paid tribute to Forrest’s longevity and humility, calling him an inspiration and Celtic legend.
While discussing his time at Arsenal, Tierney acknowledged the challenges of adapting to a new environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he noted that his loan spell at Real Sociedad felt more natural and praised the passion of the Basque supporters.
Now back at Celtic, Tierney is determined to hit the ground running. With a full pre-season ahead, the left-back is focused on getting match fit, building chemistry with his new teammates, and contributing to what he hopes will be another successful campaign.
“I just can’t wait to get started,” he added. “Get games under my belt, get to know everyone.”
He also highlighted the intensity of the current training sessions: “Everyone is there. The work ethic that I’ve seen from all the boys has been incredible.”
