‘It deeply saddened me’ – Neil Lennon Reacts to Latest Celtic Exit

NEIL LENNON has been praising his old boss Peter Lawwell.

Peter is now the former chief executive of Celtic Football Club and ran the show for nearly 20 years. Neil Lennon has had a relationship with Peter for a long time during his run as chief executive.

The Irishman was a player at the club when Lawwell came into the role and went on to captain the side, become a reserve team coach, a first team coach then the main man.

Lawwell employed Neil Lennon twice as the Celtic manager, the latter being the clubs undoing in the ten in a row season. Neil lost control of the situation very early on during the behind closed door SPFL season.

Neil has paid homage to the former Chief executive and told SunSport Peter did get a rough ride from supporters:

“The club was also very strong financially.”

“Dominic McKay has a very hard act to follow and I wish him well.

“Peter’s time as chief executive should never be forgotten.

“I believe history will judge him well.

“The job he has done for Celtic is phenomenal.

“It deeply saddened me the level of criticism Peter suffered last season.

“He didn’t deserve that. All he’s ever wanted is the best for Celtic.

“Peter felt the same sense of acute disappointment as any other supporter over how the season unfolded. It hurt him, believe me.

“But he should be regarded as a massively influential figure for Celtic in the modern era.”

Dom McKay is getting on with things and modernising the club as the new CEO puts it.

There’s so much to be getting on with we wish Dom all the best with the rebuild. It’s not going to be overnight and we must now be patient to see where we go from here.
