Celtic dominated St. Johnstone on Saturday in what was a hugely positive afternoon for Brendan Rodgers and his team.
The Bhoys played entertaining, attacking football that got fans off their seats as Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn, and James Forrest got themselves on the scoresheet.
It could have been a few more, however. Kyogo was unfortunate to have a couple of strikes disallowed and hit the bar.
If weren’t for James Forrest being marginally in front of the last defender, right-back Alistair Johnston would have got in on the act, too.
Celtic are starting to find their groove and pundit Hugh Keevins was left greatly impressed with their weekend performance.
He appeared on Saturday’s Clyde 1 Superscoreboard and admitted that the champions could have scored more than double what they did: “To be fair to Celtic, they scored three and it could have been six or seven”, he said.
“There were VAR decisions gone against them, the bar saved St, Johnstone on another occasion and the goalkeeper has defied them so it could have been 6 or 7-1.
“The only importance of the day was going top of the league.”
Gaffer Rodgers will be more than content that his side picked up all three points yesterday, particularly now that Rangers’ game has been postponed today.
Because of that, the Celts will remain at the top of the table for the international break, the pressure firmly on their rivals to match them in one of the closest title races in recent years.
