LUCA CONNELL is yet to make an impact at Celtic. Since coming into the club, Neil Lennon left the player to sit in the reserve side while offering no opportunities for first team football.
The Irish international was offered a very late loan move at the back end of last season to play for Queens Park. Instead of collecting dust at Lennoxtown, the midfielder seized the opportunity and made quite the mark for the eventual League 2 champions.
Luca earned rave reviews and showed what he could do at a lower level.
Connell was breaking out at Bolton before he was snapped up by Celtic, already featuring in the first team.
The Irish setup have also had high hopes for the playmaker but his under 21 boss has branded Luca’s move to Celtic as ‘two years wasted.
Jim Crawford believes Luca must look to make an impact next season or ask the club for a move.
“He is looking forward to coming to Spain, he wants to kick on this year at Celtic, he understands that if things don’t, it’s about him having a discussion with the powers that be at Celtic to see where his best option is, to go out on loan or what have you.” Crawford told RecordSport.
He’s another intelligent fella, he knows where he’s at, he knows he needs to be playing and it’s that two seasons of going off the radar which gave him time to reflect and say no, this is not what I am about, as I feel it is two years wasted.”
In the rebuild, there has to be room for young players to step up and seize their opportunity.
