Fabrizio Romano has claimed Inter Milan tried to land Odsonne Edouard last summer but tried to take the tact many European clubs have tried over the past 12 months and land the Celtic frontman on loan.
There have been so many loan to buy deals being done by clubs who have been holding off spending the big transfer fees until they know their transfer kitty is intact. The uncertainty of football and the income clubs can generate without fans is something that still worries many.
Celtic would only sell and not loan out when it came to Odsonne and reportedly rejected the Italian giant’s advances.
Now, as we head into the summer window in a matter of months, Romano believes Roma could be the destination for Eddy if they sell Dzeko.
“Last summer, he was close to leaving Celtic – he had really important bids, he decided to stay, but now it’s time to decide for a new club.” Romano told GiveMeSport.
“Let’s see if the right bid arrives because you have to obviously respect Celtic, they are doing an amazing job with him.
“I’m told that in the last days of the last summer window, Inter were thinking of Edouard as an opportunity, as a backup option for Lukaku.
“That was impossible because Celtic wanted a permanent deal and they were offering a loan with buy option. Also, Roma are interested in him.
“If Dzeko moves on from Roma they will look for another striker.
“There are lots of opportunities for him but I think for sure this summer he will have chances to leave the club.”
There’s an inevitability about Eddy’s exit this summer. By the time we hit July, the Frenchman will officially be in the final 12 months of his Celtic deal.
There’s very little chance the striker stays and the aim of the game is to get as much money as possible.
If we have interest from the Italian league, a bidding war between Serie A and the Premier League could ultimately benefit Celtic.
