Insult to Injury: Ibrox Club Hand Celtic Double Euro Payout

Celtic qualified for the Champions League in May when they secured the 2022/23 Scottish Premiership title. The final participants of the competition, though, were not decided until last night when the last of the second legs of the play-offs transpired.

In these matches, one particular result was financially beneficial to the Hoops, that being PSV’s stunning 7-3 aggregate victory over Rangers. Due to this result, it was confirmed that Celtic were to be Scotland’s sole Champions League participant this season.

Because of this, the Bhoys will earn double what they did last season for TV money. In 2022/23, both Celtic and their city rivals took home £2.5 million each, but due to the Ibrox side’s lack of participation this campaign in Europe’s premier club competition, the Hoops will take home all £5 million.

For Brendan Rodgers’ side, the financial additives presented by the Champions League are massive. The money gained from qualification brings so much to the football club in terms of recruitment and the running of it in general.

Next season, it will be hoped that the Bhoys can qualify for the third season running although right now, the focus is on today’s group stage draw and the forthcoming group stage campaign.
