John Hartson has delivered his damning indictment of the Celtic squad and the need for some players who aren’t good enough to finally move on.
Celtic are in the midst of a massive rebuild, all signs are pointing to a revival but the club is still walking a tight rope when it comes to their overall squad.
We have witnessed the drop off in quality between our starting XI and the bench, not to mention we always feel two injuries away from a crisis.
John Hartson believes there will be movement both ways in January with Celtic hopefully getting rid of some dead weight.
Speaking on Wednesday night’s Go Radio football phone-in show, the Welshman said:
“I just think that watching Celtic this season, there are a few players who right now are not at that level of that football club and what Ange is expecting them to do in the near future and long-term.
“Now he might have to ship a few out. I’m not going to name names, but I have a feeling that there are a couple there at Celtic that will go because they can’t perform at the highest level.
“Playing for Celtic is high-pressure, you have to win every single game. You draw a game at Celtic and it’s a crisis.
“So for me there might be a few that might be shipped out. It’s easier to bring players in than to get players out of the door.”
Ange Postecoglou has thrown down the gauntlet to the Celtic board by confirming he needs players in this January. At the AGM CeltsAreHere attended, we also watched a video where acting chief executive Michael Nicholson said the manager would be backed in January.
What does backed mean? I don’t think we’ll truly know until the end of January.
It’s been a notoriously disappointing window for Celtic over the years where the club have opted for loan deals a lot of the time.
Two players who come to mind when you think about a Celtic exit is Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas. Both men have had their chances at the club and it’s time for them both to move on.
