‘I’d Love To Help’ – Kieran Tierney Embraces Senior Role in Celtic Return

Kieran Tierney says he’s ready to take on more responsibility at Celtic this time around, after rejoining the club where he made his name. Now 28, the Scotland international admits he’s in a different stage of his career, but still wants to do what he’s always done: lead by example.

Tierney, who first broke into the Celtic team as a teenager under Ronny Deila, returns to Parkhead nearly a decade on from his debut. And while he’s not thinking about wearing the armband just yet, he’s keen to support younger players looking to follow a similar path.

He pointed to established figures like Callum McGregor, James Forrest, and Cameron Carter-Vickers as players who set the standard every day, both on and off the pitch. It’s that environment Tierney wants to contribute to, knowing full well the demands that come with playing for Celtic.

Speaking to CeltsAreHere, Tierney also had a message for youngsters in and around the squad who dream of making the breakthrough, stressing the importance of work ethic, focus, and patience.

He said: “The dressing room’s full of people who can help — like James Forrest, who’s been here forever, Cameron (Carter-Vickers) as well. Even staff. If I can be part of that and help people, I’d love to.

“I’ll just be myself every day in training and games. If the manager and coaches think it’s something I can do, I’d be happy to. But as you say, I’m not thinking too far ahead. Callum’s (McGregor) still got a few years left in him.

“The expectation’s always been there. I had it for the 15 years I was here before. Nothing’s changed. I know what it’s like, how hard it is, but I just want to be as successful as I was the first time and do what’s best for Celtic.

“Just keep doing what you’re doing. Work on your strengths. Enjoy every moment. When you’re trying to break through, you need a bit of luck too. So work hard, stay ready, and enjoy it.”

Tierney’s return has already lifted the mood among supporters who know what he brings. There’s no question about his ability, but his experience, leadership and understanding of the club are just as valuable.

With Brendan Rodgers’ squad going through subtle changes this summer, having players like Tierney in the dressing room can help balance youthful ambition with the know-how needed to win.

Tierney’s comments also show he’s aware of the weight that comes with wearing the shirt. Having lived it once before, his perspective could prove crucial to those hoping to follow in his footsteps.

And if his second spell ends up half as successful as the first, Celtic will be in a strong place both on and off the pitch.
