Ibrox Hall of Famer Retires with Celtic Trophy Anguish

ALLAN McGregor had his testimonial match at Ibrox this week, after he was introduced into their hall of fame last season.

He’ll be remembered by the fans as a legend, despite jumping ship back in 2012, infamously claiming he was a free agent after Rangers were liquidated.

But, after some re-writing and erasing of history, he left the Ibrox side at the end of last season, but was sure to play his testimonial match against Newcastle earlier this week.

After witnessing three trebles from the Hoops in his second spell at the club, joining in the summer of 2018, he’s opened up on his regrets, saying he wished he was leaving Ibrox with more trophies to his name.

He also tried to claim that his side won three trophies, if they count the Europa League, which they did lose if my mind serves me correctly. It went to a penalty shootout, and the best signing since Gazza missed the penalty that cost The Rangers their third trophy in five years.

So, leaving with two trophies in his second stint in Glasgow, Allan McGregor had this to say when looking back on his time at Ibrox. [Glasgow Times]

“I wish there were more, I’m not going to lie.

“Without wanting to sound negative here, we have won two trophies from a possible 15 in the last five years – 16 if you include the Europa League final – and that is not enough for this club.

“At Rangers there always has to be a standard where every game and every trophy is a must-win.

“I try to do my best to get that through to people, that you must be consistently winning leagues and winning cups. We need to get back to that as soon as possible.”

Watching Celtic cruise to another treble in his last season at Ibrox must’ve stung.
