Ibrox Club Have Major Issue Ahead of Celtic Tie – Decision Must Be Made

It was just before the first Glasgow Derby last season when Celtic were decimated with call offs due to the virus. It would be our downfall inside an empty Celtic Park as the bhoys went down 2-0 to their rivals.

Fast forward almost a year later and history is repeating itself – but on the other side of Glasgow. [Herald Scotland]

With the derby game coming up on Sunday, the Ibrox club have confirmed their UEFA sanctioned tests have thrown up more than one positive.

As with when Celtic had positive cases – the names of the players who contracted the virus weren’t directly divulged. It does throw up doubt who Celtic will be up against on Sunday.

There could be just a couple of call offs, there could be more, we just don’t know right now.

Kevin Clancy will be the referee on Sunday.

Celtic might get an idea of who is out when Gerrard and co play Alashkert on Thursday evening. However, that could be a red herring, the club could opt not to take certain players as a precaution because of the travel situation could make them vulnerable which could leave them low on numbers as they try to qualify for the Europa League.

If more positive cases arise and they’ve not distanced enough on their long journey, it could mean even more call-offs.

As we’ve said previously when reporting on positive cases, the virus can be a nasty thing and we wish any player who has contracted it all the best in their recovery.
