Dino Skvorc will be lining up against Celtic in a couple of weeks but the Croatian defender said it could have been so different had Celtic paid £1million for him back in 2010.

The Alashkert player had a successful trial with Neil Lennon’s Celtic back in 2010, so successful in fact that Lenny wanted to offer Dino a deal.

However, the deal fell through when his club at the time Varazdin (now defunct) asked for more than what the Parkhead board were willing to pay for an unknown Croatian defender.

As a result, Dino didn’t get his move and had the added annoyance of seeing his club fold shortly after denying his move to Glasgow.

“In 2010, I was training at Celtic for a week and they offered me a contract.

“However, the management of Varazdin demanded more than a million euros for my transfer, as a result of which the deal did not take place.

“What made it even more annoying was that Varazdin went bankrupt a few months later. If they had accepted a lower offer, they would still have been a club and I would have been a Celtic player!

“But there’s nothing that can be done about it now and I have to concentrate on trying to beat the Scottish side now.”
