I Wanted Celtic Move – Irishman Makes Parkhead Revelation

DAMIEN DUFF has made the revelation he tried to manufacture a move to Celtic ten years ago when he was leaving Newcastle.

The Irishman has now taken up a coaching role with the Celtic developmental side, but had he got it his way; he would have pulled on those famous Hoops.

Speaking at a press conference to introduce himself to the Celtic fans and media, the former Chelsea, Newcastle and Fulham man revealed he sent out ‘vibes’ to Celtic when he knew for sure he’d be moving on from Newcastle at the start of season 09/10.

The winger had already won the Premier League twice with Chelsea and was areal talent, but Duff says the move never materialised even though he tried to make it happen.

“I tried to get a move to Celtic when I left Newcastle but moves only happen when they’re meant to be so it obviously wasn’t meant to be.” he told CelticTV.

“I’m not one for agents so I sent out the vibes when I was leaving Newcastle but my move to Fulham happened quite quickly because Roy Hodgson was a big part of my career.

“But I’m not one to dwell on the past. I’m here now and there’s no place I’d rather be on earth.

“I’ve always adored the club like most people back home. The next best thing is coaching and to come here is amazing.”

Back then, Celtic had just appointed Tony Mowbray as club manager in an ill-fated move which would see the bhoys capitulate that season.

Duff doesn’t say how far he got down the line with notifying Celtic of his interest, but someone at the club had apparently made the decision not to sign the player for either money or football reasons.

This was the season Celtic brought in Robbie Keane in the January transfer window in a desperate attempt to save the season. Had we had someone like Duff in our ranks as well, who knows!
