‘I understand there’s a need for him to play’ – Neil Lennon Hints at Celtic Debut Sooner Rather Than Later

NEIL LENNON addressed the Greg Taylor situation on Friday at his pre-match press conference with CELTIC TV.

Many supporters have been confused after the player was brought in on deadline day to challenge Boli Bolingoli but nearly two months later the defender still hasn’t made his debut.

Boli has been doing well in the position but it’s unfair to Taylor he hasn’t been given any sort of opportunity to stake his own claim for a place.

Given Celtic didn’t need to sign Greg if Neil Lennon thought Jonny Hayes was good enough cover – it remains to be seen when the former Killie man will get his chance.

According to the Celtic boss, it sounds like it will come sooner rather than later. Neil confirmed talks with Greg about the situation and he’s working hard in training to come into the manager’s thoughts.

“The fact he’s not in the squad is because he knows we have Jonny Hayes who can double up positions — right wing, left wing or left back.

“So it’s pointless having one bona-fide left back when you have a player who can factor a couple of positions for you.

“Greg totally understands that.

“It’s new to him because he played every week at Kilmarnock.

“I was a big fan of him when I was managing Hibs. He was excellent over those two years.

“But he’ll be patient and I am sure that when his chance comes he will take it.

“Working every day with the players, sports scientists and fitness coaches here will make him better.

“But I understand there’s a need for him to play and he’ll get that opportunity with so many games coming up.”
