‘I love them’ – Frank McGarvey’s Emotional Tribute to the Celtic Support

Frank McGarvey was at Celtic Park on Saturday to salute the Celtic support.

The Celtic legend has been diagnosed with cancer and wanted to come back to say thanks to the Celtic support before a rousing rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone bellowed out into the East end air.

Frank was very emotional on the day as he spoke to the crowd, the bhoy from Easterhouse addressing the same support he used to entertain.

Remembering the iconic strike in 1985 when he scored the winner for Celtic in the Scottish Cup final, the 66-year-old Parkhead icon held back the tears and told CelticTV: “If you can make hundreds of thousands of people across Scotland happy with scoring a goal.

“It was a very tough time for us, because Scottish football was at a high level.

“To score that goal and look at the Celtic end, to see the Celtic fans cheering, I was a wee boy brought up in Easterhouse dreaming of that – those were things that were never going to happen.

“That day, I’m glad I made them all happy.”

McGarvey’s support for Celtic has never wavered. If you frequent Celtic Park often, you will have no doubt saw the former Celtic star on club duties or just taking it in as a fan. He loves Celtic, the fans and the fans love him.

Frank’s diagnosis has hit the Celtic family hard. We don’t know what’s around the corner. He wanted to make it clear how much he loves the fans and how they made him feel. It was a special moment for Frank to be back out on the pitch and with the future uncertain, he soaked up every last moment.

He continued: “I’ve been to the hospital and they’ve told me what’s probably going to happen to me.

“This might be my last time to see them, so if I can just thank them very much for everything.

“You’ve got to remember Celtic isn’t just about the players – it’s about the fans, it’s because of the fans that makes the club a family.

“When you come to see your family for the last time maybe, it’s sad.

“I just wanted to say to the Celtic fans that I love them very much and to thank them for everything they’ve done for me.”

God Bless Frank McGarvey. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say he’s in our prayers.
