‘I Love the club’ – Former Parkhead Hero Touts Emotional Celtic Return

Victor Wanyama claimed he held talks with Neil Lennon about a Celtic reunion last year but a deal couldn’t be done to make it happen.

The manager wanted the deal and so did the player but the two clubs didn’t want to play ball.

Victor was out in the cold at Spurs and wanted to go play football again. Celtic would have preferred a loan deal for their former enforcer but the London club wanted the Kenyan off the books for good.

Speaking to Football Scotland, Wanyama revealed a return was certainly spoken about:

He explained: “I had a contract at Tottenham and they were very difficult to let me go, the demands were very hard.

“Celtic was a club that I would love to play for again and again. It’s more than a club. I enjoyed my time there.

“I honestly want to come back and give it a last go because I love the club, the people there, the fans, just everything there was great. They give the players everything to go on the pitch and perform. Everything was just on top.

“There was a loan approach but I don’t know what happened. I didn’t follow it up that much.

“I spoke to Neil as well and he said to me ‘it’s difficult with the demands’ and at that time they didn’t have the money to make it happen.

“But it is what is is. As I say, I still love that club, it’s in my heart.”

Victor has been linked with a return during a few windows now. There’s no doubt he could have added strength and experience to Celtic’s midfield if he was signed over the past 2-3 years.

It hasn’t happened, and as the midfielder gets up there in years, it looks like a pipe dream when it comes to an emotional Celtic return.

Victor was a fan favourite at the club, coming in as an unknown to boss the midfield for the Hoops.

The former Celt is playing in Canada these days with Montreal. He’a only 30, maybe there’s one last chance to grab him?
