‘I Got Everything I Wanted’ – Rodgers Comments Come Back to Haunt Him

Brendan Rodgers words after the January window have come back to haunt him today as he looks over the wreckage of Celtic’s failed Champions League bid.

The Irishman has bemoaned the lack of progress on deals this summer but the recruitment failure goes all the way back to January in a window where Celtic had one eye on these qualifiers.

On the 1st of February as the window closed – Brendan Rodgers was a happy bhoy.

“Today I have to say a big thank you to Dermot Desmond, Peter Lawwell and the board at Celtic. January was going to be an important month for us and everything I asked for I was able to get.”

“In terms of experience, quality and players we think we can develop. They delivered everything I wanted so it’s a great credit to them and our recruitment team.”

January Recruits

Bain (Backup GK)
Hendry (Inexperienced, struggling)
Compper (MIA)
Musonda (Took the Huff, left)
Lewis Morgan (Looks Promising, currently injured)

Hindsight is wonderful but to say January was anything other than a disaster for Celtic in terms of recruitment you would be lying to yourself.

Celtic were in desperate need of a quality centre back and a new right back. We got Compper and Hendry and more perplexing we got rid of Erik Sviatchenko – a man who would have certainly got the nod last night had he still been around.

There’s plenty of blame to go around here but with Rodgers deeming January a success at the time – in the harsh reality of a mid-August Euro implosion, it looks rather silly.
