In the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ return to Celtic as manager, former Hoops defender Mark Wilson has shared his thoughts on the appointment.

Wilson, who had Rodgers at the top of his wish list as a possible successor to Ange Postecoglou, believes that despite the lingering animosity over Rodgers’ abrupt departure to Leicester City two years ago, he should not be offering an apology.
Celtic fans are already divided over Rodgers’ appointment, with popular fan group, the Green Brigade, voicing their disapproval, uploading the infamous banner from Tynecastle just after the manager left in 2019, labelling him a “fraud” while claiming he was “never a Celt”.
Reacting to the controversy, Mark Wilson claimed that Brendan Rodgers has nothing to apologise for, and despite some fans keen on receiving an apology, the Clyde 1 SSB pundit doesn’t believe that the new Celtic manager will offer an apology.
“I think some fans want him to come out and say sorry and apologise”, he said live on Sky Sports.
“I don’t think that’s ever going to be the case. And, I don’t think he has anything to apologise for.
“He’s a manager who wanted to progress his career in the richest league in the world.
“But, I think they want to hear assurance that he’s here for the long term. I know things can change quickly in football, but they’ll want to hear that he’s got a plan to take this club forward in Europe, and spend time doing that, not jumping ship at the first opportunity.
“I think, this time around, if an opportunity came up quite quickly, i think he’d turn it down because he realises what a special club this is.”
Only time will tell what Brendan Rodgers will say about his departure now that he’s back at the club, with his first press conference scheduled for this week.
