‘I am experienced enough’ – Brendan Rodgers Defends Right to Speak His Mind after Fan Criticism

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has defended his right to speak his mind after criticising the Parkhead crowd off the back of Sunday’s win over St. Mirren.

The Hoops cantered to a simple 3-0 victory over the Buddies, with goals coming from Nicolas Kuhn and Auston Trusty.

The triumph put the Bhoys 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, although Rodgers’ post-match comments dominated the headlines on Sunday night.

Indeed, the Celtic manager criticised the home fans for their groans when his team made backpasses, as well as hitting out at a particular section of the ground for singing Kieran Tierney’s name and how it was ‘disrespectful’ to current left-back Greg Taylor.

Rodgers faced the media for the first time since the weekend today at Lennoxtown, where he defended his right to speak his mind: “I am not going to beat about the bush when I am talking about the bush,” he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“So, I am experienced enough to say what I think and what I feel.

“But not in a derogatory way to anyone. I am not, as I said, I would be the last person coming back to here. Everything that I put myself through to come back to here, I am so, so happy that I came back here and love my life and love my job here.

“But it is also important to be able to say what I think. Sometimes you pay not to say what you think, but there are moments when you have to, and I am at the stage now in my career and my life where I do not need to bite my tongue.”

Rodgers undoubtedly let loose after Sunday’s game and said what was on his mind.

He had several things to get off his chest, which he duly did in the Celtic Park media suite.

His comments have garnered a wealth of attention over the past few days, and the saga rumbles on. Admittedly, it was a strange time for Rodgers to call out the support; time will tell whether it was the right move.
