How the Celtic Dressing Room Reacted to Kyogo’s Missed Chance vs Dundee Utd

Callum McGregor says that the Celtic dressing room had ‘no problem’ with Kyogo Furuhashi’s missed chance against Dundee United on Sunday.

The Hoops were made to work for the points at Tannadice and ultimately, they couldn’t find the breakthrough against a stubborn United side.

Jim Goodwin’s men defended adeptly throughout the 90, and although the Bhoys registered just three shots on target, their opportunities were considerable.

Arne Engels almost toe-poked the ball home from close range late on to win it for the visitors, but the biggest chance of the game fell the way of the usually-reliable Kyogo.

The Japanese frontman received the ball just inside the box and should’ve scored, although he couldn’t adjust his feet in time. United ‘keeper Jack Walton duly smothered the ball.

Kyogo’s teammates, however, weren’t at all annoyed with him post-match. Indeed, captain Callum McGregor recognises how key the 29-year-old has been in the past for the Scottish Premiership champions, and that one miss won’t bring him down.

He said (The Celtic Way): “Kyogo will be fine. Yeah, okay, he missed the chance. How many goals has he scored for us over the piece? He’s won us countless games, countless big games and trophies.

“In the big moment, he’s been the go-to man for us. Strikers will miss chances; it’s no problem. He’ll be fine and we go again as a team, so we have no problem with that at all.”

Kyogo wasn’t sharp enough, and while his miss was somewhat costly in terms of failing to secure the points for his side, as McGregor outlined, he has come up with numerous big moments for Celtic previously.

His time in Glasgow, however, could soon be coming to an end, with recent reports stating that MLS side Atlanta United, managed by ex-Hoops boss Ronny Deila, are considering a £10m bid for the forward.

It remains to be seen what will come of said speculation, but January is sure to be a busy month at Parkhead.
