CELTIC STAR Matt ORiley has declared that Callum McGregor could easily fit into the Real Madrid midfield alongside stalwarts Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

The Celtic star has been a faithful servant to the Hoops since his debut under Ronny Deila after a loan spell at Notts County. It feels like a long time ago that he broke into the first team, as he captains the side weekly.

ORiley, who joined the squad in January 2022, has been blown away by his captain‘s skill and is convinced that he is on a par with the two world-class midfielders.

A move to the Spanish giants may not be in the offing, but ORiley is adamant that McGregor could hold his own in the famous white shirts of Real Madrid.

He said: [Football Scotland]

“If I’m being completely honest, I think Cal is at a similar level now (to those players). Respectfully, if he was put into a team like Real Madrid I think he’d fit in pretty easily. I have played with a lot of good players and Cal is definitely up there with the best of them. He’s a very important player and captain of the club. On top of that, he’s a genuinely nice guy as well.

“We’re lucky to have him at Celtic. I saw he was bursting through Spain players after 90 minutes on Tuesday night which just sums him up. I was really happy for him and for Scotland.”

Callum McGregor shows his quality every time he steps onto the pitch, no matter what level he’s playing at.
