Henrik Larsson was the last ever player to score against Jose Mourinho, in that final 20 years ago. His brace wasn’t enough to win Martin O’Neill’s side the cup, with Porto winning after extra time.
However, after he said the incredible stat, it was debunked just minutes after it was shared live on-air.
It was a classic case of the commentator’s curse, Roma’s Gianluca Mancini scored an own goal just moments later, putting Sevilla ahead in the Budapest final.
But does Larsson’s record still stand? After all, it was an own goal, and no opposition player has scored against Mourinho, who many Celtic fans are still to forgive after the final in 2003.
