NEW BHOY Hatem Elhamed was introduced to the media at Celtic Park today after his switch from Hapoel Be’er Sheva was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The defender has been brought into the club to play predominantly right-back for Neil Lennon’s men and is excited about the opportunity in front of him.
Hatem, 28, has got the biggest break of his career and has signed a four-year deal with the bhoys.
Speaking to CelticTV, the Israeli spoke of his excitement, talking with former bhoy Kayal and how far along he is fitness-wise in terms of getting a pre-season under his belt.
“To see this amazing stadium was very exciting for me. Hopefully I can prove I deserve to be here. I’m a player that can do many things. I’m very quick and comfortable with the ball.
“I can do a good job as a right and centre back. I want to play.”
“I spoke with Nir and Beram Kayal and they said very good words about the people here and the club. They said it’s like a family and I can do a very good job with my qualities. I can’t wait for my first training session and game with my teammates.
“I did pre-season with Hapoel Be’er Sheva and had very good sessions. I’m ready to play but I need a couple of days to get to know everything, of course.”
Hatem can’t play in Celtic’s second leg versus Kalju as he wasn’t registered in time. The first chance the Israeli will have to impress is on flag day against St Johnstone.
Depending on the formation Celtic fo with on the day, the player could be thrust into the action at right back against St Johnstone.
Hatem sounds like he’ll be ready if he does end up on the team sheet.
The player became Neil Lennon’s fourth summer signing and it’s no coincidence the Irishman has now brought in three defenders since and there could be more on the way.
