Has Filip Benkovic Opened Door For Permanent Celtic Bid?

FILIP BENKOVIC has a loan deal with Celtic until the end of the season but has the player’s latest comments opened the door for a permanent move?

The defender was bought by Leicester City for a fee of €14.5million back in the summer and spent a brief time in England before Celtic came calling for the ex-Zagreb star.

It was made clear this was only a one-year deal with no option to buy at the end of it for Celtic.

Fans have been resigned to only having the big Croatian for the year and are loving every minute of the defender’s contributions as the club aim for 8-in-a-row. On his day, Filip is Celtic’s best defender, so if he gives us just the tiniest inkling he would like to stay beyond the summer, we’re going to jump on that!

Are the quotes below an indication he would be willing to stay if Celtic were to go all out and try and sign him? You be the judge.

“The last information I had from Leicester was that I am staying at Celtic until the end of the season. I enjoy it here so that’s what I’m focusing on. After that, we will speak and see what’s for the best.” Benkovic told RecordSport.

“I’m having fun here and want more of it.”

If these comments are anything to go by, there’s no harm in Celtic asking the question in the summer. If you have a top player who is happy to stay at the club, it would be negligent not to at least try.
