‘Half a team’ – Chris Sutton Takes Final Parting Shot at Michael Beale

Since Brendan Rodgers’ return to Celtic in the summer, the managerial merry-go-round across the city at Ibrox has already turned. Now, with Michael Beale having been shown the door, Rodgers is poised to face yet another Ibrox gaffer, an encounter he’s all too familiar with.

Chris Sutton, a voice never far from the action when it comes to Celtic, recently shared his thoughts on the matter. He remarked, “Brendan Rodgers has already seen plenty of Rangers managers off the premises. I’ll bet he’s salivating at the prospect of putting another one to the sword.” The Englishman wrote in his RecordSport column.

Sutton’s perspective, always unfiltered and often tinged with a green hue, continued, “Perhaps I’m wrong. Perhaps Rodgers would have been quite happy for Michael Beale to stay in charge because that particular Ibrox project was going absolutely nowhere. But, having helped bring about the Londoner’s demise by beating him on his own patch with half a team missing and none of his club’s supporters inside the stadium, I’m convinced the Celtic boss will be licking his chops at getting stuck into sinking the next appointment.”

The former Celtic striker referring to the 1-0 victory at Ibrox got Rodgers even though he had a patched up defence and no Reo Hatate to call on.

Currently, Celtic are in a dominant position in the league, boasting a seven-point lead over their Glasgow rivals. The departure of Beale further bolsters the narrative that Celtic still call the shots in Glasgow. When you can’t keep up with the champions, it’s always going to be difficult to keep your job.

In the backdrop of this managerial shuffle, the Celtic fans will be hoping that this momentum continues. With Rodgers at the helm and an evident edge over their city rivals, the future looks bright for Celtic. A vital run of games starts after the international break which sees Celtic play in the capital two weeks in a row against both Hearts and Hibs, sandwiched in between is the small matter of Atletico Madrid.
