Gustaf Lagerbielke ‘Close’ to Braga Transfer

Celtic are reportedly closing in on the sale of Gustaf Lagerbielke, with Portuguese side Braga nearing an agreement to sign the Swedish defender in a deal worth around £2 million.

Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph reports that Braga are in advanced talks with Celtic, and both clubs are hopeful of finalising the transfer in the coming days.

The 25-year-old centre-back is understood to be keen on the move, with plans being made for him to travel to Portugal later this week to undergo a medical.

The update follows claims from Swedish outlet Sportbladet, who also reported that the clubs are edging towards an agreement, with only final details to be sorted before the deal can be completed. Should it go through, Lagerbielke is expected to sign a long-term contract with the Primeira Liga side.

Lagerbielke joined Celtic from Elfsborg in the summer of 2023 for a fee believed to be around £3 million but has struggled to make an impact at Parkhead.

He featured rarely under Brendan Rodgers before being sent out on loan to Dutch side FC Twente in August. Despite a solid run of games in the Eredivisie, Twente opted not to make the move permanent.

Braga have now stepped in to offer the Swede a fresh start, with Celtic prepared to take a hit on their initial investment to move him on.

With competition for places in central defence only growing, the Hoops appear ready to cut their losses and reshape the squad ahead of the new season.
