A hero to some, a sideshow to others – John Guidetti’s time at Celtic was hardly boring but don’t tell the player that!
The Swedish striker who has never been short of confidence made a great impact in the first half of his Celtic season but slowly faded away into the background.
Some Celtic fans may look back retrospectively and think they made John out to be more than he was after a ridiculous amount of dud strikers we went through at the time.
With 17 goals in 40 games, he was a much needed boost but it would be Leigh Griffiths who came out of the Swede’s shadow and into the limelight and Celtic haven’t looked back.
After the first half of the season, many Celtic fans were clamouring to sign the player whose City contract was coming to an end but the striker didn’t see it that way.
“I went to Celtic, smashed it the first half [of the season], and then they said, ‘John you have to sign a contract.’ I said, ‘Listen, I don’t think I owe you anything’. Celtic’s a massive club but I like the big games. I don’t like — with all respect — Ross County away. said Guidetti to the Times.
The player is now currently at Celta Vigo and is showing his class with 8 goals in 40 appearances.
Safe to say our current striker Moussa Dembele has double the talent and double the class.
