Greg Taylor Reacts to Greek Celtic Reunion

Greg Taylor has welcomed an old Parkhead teammate to his new club, with Giorgos Giakoumakis sealing a move to Greek side PAOK.

The striker, who left Celtic for Atlanta United in early 2023, has returned to his homeland in what will be his third move since leaving Glasgow. Giakoumakis enjoyed a prolific spell at Celtic, scoring 26 goals in 57 games despite often playing second fiddle to Kyogo Furuhashi.

Taylor made the switch to PAOK earlier this summer on a free transfer following the expiry of his Celtic contract, and he’s now set for a reunion not only with Giakoumakis but also John-Joe Kenny, who had a six-month loan spell in Glasgow during the 2020/21 season.

Taking to Instagram after the news broke, Taylor kept it short and sweet, posting on his story: “Band back together.”

It’s a move that will see the trio link up in Thessaloniki as PAOK aim to challenge for the Greek Super League title and make progress in Europe.

Giakouamalis has previously opened up on his Celtic spell, and has spoken about the breakdown in relationship with then-manager, Ange Postecoglou, and CEO Michael Nicholson.

Describing their “fragile” relationship, the striker said:

“So, maybe Ange was preferring this false nine. I think the relationship between me, Michael (Nicholson) and Ange in the end was really fragile.

“It was really fragile, and I think at some point it just broke the glass.”

Giakoumakis returns to Greece on an initial loan deal, but there is an option to buy.
