Greg Taylor has left no doubt over where his heart now lies after ending his six-year spell at Celtic earlier this summer.
After a trophy-laden spell at Parkhead, he left the club after his contract expired and took up a new challenge in Greece.
“For sure,” Taylor said when asked by The Celtic Way if he now considers himself a Celtic fan. “I lived and breathed it. I’d like to think anyone would have seen that, what it meant to me to play for Celtic. Every game, I left everything on the pitch. It meant so much to win, whether it was Kilmarnock away or Real Madrid at home in the Champions League. Every game meant the same to me, and I loved the honour of playing for Celtic. It’s an amazing club, with amazing people, and I’m really lucky to have played there for so long.”
During his time in Glasgow, Taylor became a key figure in Brendan Rodgers’ and Ange Postecoglou’s sides, often rising to the occasion in high-pressure derbies. His combative edge saw him get the better of Rangers’ top names, famously silencing Alfredo Morelos and winding up Todd Cantwell. We’ll never forget the shushburger stuff either!
The 27-year-old’s exit to Greek side PAOK closed a successful chapter in his career, but not before one last quip aimed across the city.
A few months ago, when Rangers pundit Kris Boyd asked if he’d ever return to the club he supported as a boy, Taylor’s answer was instant: “Not a chance. World’s most successful team for me,” he said.
He’s looking to make a name for himself in a new place, but he has some familiar faces with him. The signing of Gorgos Giakoumakis was confirmed this week, with JonJoe Kenny – who spent 6 months at Celtic – playing on the opposite side of the defence from GT.
