The Green Brigade are calling on Celtic fans to respond to UEFA’s latest Celtic fine (for the anti-monarchy banner), by donating to their food drive appeal to help impoverished communities in Scotland.
The club have been handed a £13,169 fine for the banner displayed by the Green brigade in Shakhtar protesting the monarchy and the obligation, the European body claiming it was ‘not fit for a sporting event’. This after UEFA allowed positive reinforcement of the monarchy after the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Protesting the Monarchy isn’t on but commemorating the same institution is encouraged. It’s a bogus premise and the Green brigade have called it out for what it is, shining a light on the struggles our society is going through.
The group have asked Celtic fans and beyond to back their drive to help the most poor and impoverished people around the country this winter as a form of protest. Not dissimilar to match the fine for Palestine when Celtic were handed a similar fine for Celtic fans waving Palestinian flags.
The Green brigade get a lot of flak, but they’re work in the community and beyond should be admired and celebrated. At a time when our whole country is facing massive issues, protesting an inclusive institution who live in extreme privilege while backing the poorest in our society is something to be proud of.
If you would like to donate to the cause, see below.
The group will be running a food bank drive at the beginning of November in tandem with the online donations.
