‘Great for our football club.’ – Ange Delighted with Unexpected News
ANGE POSTECGOLOU has hailed Jota’s unexpected recognition by his national side Portugal as ‘great’ for Celtic after the winger made a 55-man shortlist ahead of the World Cup.
The Celtic star is still currently out injured, but his exploits with Celtic over the past year and a half haven’t gone unnoticed back in his native Portugal. Not being satisfied on the sidelines at his boyhood heroes Benfica, the midfielder took a chance with Celtic, and it’s paid off hugely.
While it’s unlikely Jota will make it into the final World Cup squad for the winter tournament in Qatar, it’s an important step and shows he’s making the right kinds of noises at Celtic.
“Super pleased. It’s a hell of a recognition for him; we know how strong a nation Portugal is, particularly in those attacking positions.
“We know his form has been outstanding for us, both domestically and in Europe, over the last sort of 16-17 months he’s been with us.

“I’m sure it’s encouraging for him because he probably came to us 18-months ago, just wanting to kick-start his career and in a very short time, now he’s within national team recognition.
“So, it’s great for him, and I’m sure it’s a great incentive and motivator. Great for our football club.”
Ange is spot on with his assessment.
Jota getting international recognition while at Celtic promotes the idea of players coming to join the club and being able to further their careers.
Many people look down on the Scottish game, and some feel if they head to the SPFL, they will vanish into the international wilderness. It’s not the case, and it could help promote more talented players like Jota to follow in his footsteps.
It also gives Jota that extra bit of incentive to keep up his intensity on the field for the bhoys in green.
