Going Nowhere – What Desmond Really Said

Headlines this morning read Dermot Desmond would not stand in the way of Brendan Rodgers if he wanted to go to Arsenal.

These comments were whipped up into a frenzy pretty quickly as Celtic putting the white flag up, allowing their manager to fly the nest.

Nothing can be further from the truth.

“He’s an outstanding person, and we wouldn’t like him to leave, but we can’t force anyone to stay” Desmond admitted.

“Hopefully his love for the club will induce him to stay at Celtic”

“I don’t think you can put handcuffs on anybody if they want to go to a club as good as Arsenal, but it will be Brendan’s decision and Brendan’s decision only”

Clearly states he wants the manager to stay, the Celtic manager has clearly stated he wants to stay, so of course we can see why the media have put two and two together and come up with -54.

The comments from the majority shareholder are true of any club who have players or managers who are courted. You can’t handcuff anyone, and if they want to go these days then they most likely will.

Celtic posted Brendan Rodgers quote again this morning reaffirming his position at Celtic.

There will be a day when Brendan does head for pastures new but the manager seems committed to the club for the tilt for ten.
