Giakoumakis Handed International Award

Celtic summer signing Giorgos Giakoumakis has been handed an international reward, as he was named the best Greek player playing abroad for the 2020/21 season.

The 27-year old striker had an impressive campaign with Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo, finishing top goalscorer as his former team were relegated from the Dutch League, which ultimately led to him making a move to Parkhead.

As reported by Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, who has become a reliable source for Celtic fans when it comes to news on the likes of Giakoumakis and Vasilas Barkas, the Greek football players association voted the Hoops striker as their Greek player of the year playing abroad.

So far, it hasn’t been the best of starts to life in Glasgow for Giakoumakis, scoring just one goal and missing a crucial penalty in the dying moments of the game against Livingston.

The frontman has also had his injury issues in his first few months with the club since signing on transfer deadline day and is currently out with a knee injury which he sustained in the Hoops trip to Dens Park.

However, there have been minor aspects of his few performances which have impressed some sections of the support, such as his ability to offer something different in the final third with his physical presence.

Hopefully, we can see the big striker return from his injury as soon as possible because we are certainly lacking options in the final third at this moment in time with the number of injuries in the squad.
