During the off season, a lot of stories and interviews are conducted where they delve into much more than what’s happening in the here and now.
Lately, Brendan Rodgers took part in such an interview and inevitably his time at Celtic came up. When Rodgers talks about Celtic it always sparks the debate about his legacy at the club.
A top manager no doubt but a lot of supporters still sour on his exit.
Speaking last week, Brendan Rodgers spoke about when he was discussing taking over at Celtic ‘someone’ told him that he would have to get rid of Celtic captain Scott Brown if he was to build a successful, winning, football playing style.
Rodgers speaks about the front page of the paper the year prior to Rodgers coming into the club with Brown caught on a night out drunk eating a kebab during the season.
Speaking about his former captain, Rodgers makes the claim he had a heart to heart with Brown about where he was going.
“But funny enough, before I joined, someone rang me and was telling me about the job and one of the first things they said was, ‘If you’re going to play how you want to play there Brendan, you’re probably going to have to move on Scott’.” Rodgers told SunSport.
“Obviously leading into that game Scott was sat on the street having had a night out.
“And the point I was making to him straight away was, ‘You can’t do that – if you want to be the best player you possibly can be and you want to lead a club of Celtic’s status, an institution, then you’re one of the pillars of this club.’
“And from that meeting on he was incredible for me.”
Brown is still playing to a high level, even now. The Celtic captain is as professional as they come.
