Gers Coach Makes Official Apology For Shameful Celtic Headbutt

Celtic Women took on Rangers Women on Monday evening. A last minute equaliser from Caitlin Hayes was the catalyst for jubilant scenes on the touchline and in the stands as Celtic fans celebrated securing a late, late point.

After the game, however, opposition coach Craig McPherson couldn’t hold in his built up anger and frustration as he shamefully headbutted Celtic Women manager Fran Alonso.

It has already been said McPherson will face an SFA hearing following the ugly post-match scenes in which, as well as a physical act of violence, he also labelled reportedly labelled Alonso as ‘a little rat’ (Daily Record).

This morning, the Scot eventually came out and apologised for his embarrassing antics after five days. A post was made on Rangers Women’s official Twitter account detailing what McPherson had to say for himself:

McPherson offered a ‘full and unreserved apology’, noting what he done was way out of character. The Gers coach also said Fran Alonso has accepted his apology following a lengthy conversation.

Further, McPherson said he did not uphold the high standard of his football club and he will accept whatever punishment is given to him from the SFA.

Despite this message, actions undoubtedly speak louder than words and for what he shamefully done, Craig McPherson will continually be remembered.
