Celtic fans continually wave Palestine flags at Celtic games even after numerous warnings and fines by UEFA in recent times – showing solidarity with the people of Palestine and their horrendous plight.
Celtic fans took it one step further when UEFA issued the club an £8K fine for waving the flag during a game against Israeli opponents and made up a JustGiving page to ‘Match the fine for Palestine’ – it did more than match it and raised over £175k. Showing exactly why sport can be a force for good.
The GAA have had their troubles and problems with political statements and reportedly refused one of their referees the right to wear a rainbow coloured wristband during the Gay marriage referendum campaign in Ireland a few years back.
The latest events are surely going to receive a lot of pushback from many GAA supporters.
