The player, who spent the last season on loan at St Johnstone, is in the crosshairs of Scott Brown’s Fleetwood Town.

Saints’ manager, Steven MacLean, has admitted that he’s unsure about what lies ahead for the Celtic prodigy.

During his loan spell at McDiarmid Park, Montgomery put in 33 performances across various tournaments, yet it’s unclear whether he will return to Perth for another term.

Montgomery, now 20, has caught the attention of Fleetwood Town. His connection with Celtic icon Scott Brown might just entice him to make a move south.

However, the final decision about Montgomery’s next move rests in the hands of Brendan Rodgers, who will evaluate his squad during the pre-season.

St Johnstone currently has a couple of players in the left-back positions, which makes MacLean’s stance on a potential re-loan of Montgomery quite ambivalent.

MacLean told the Courier:

“I don’t know what will happen with Monty. I’m sure there will be a few clubs interested in taking him on loan if Celtic decide that’s best for him.

“Monty was fantastic for us. I’ve got two left-backs in the building – and both of them will hopefully be fit.

“We’ll see what happens. Hopefully they’re both flying.”
