Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic winger Luis Palma is set to join Olympiacos on loan until the end of the season, with the Greek side holding an option to buy.

Palma will travel to Greece tonight to finalise the move, where he is expected to undergo a medical in El Pireo before completing the switch ahead of the transfer deadline.

The winger hasn’t been able to prove himself at Celtic despite looking good at points last season. He came on from off the bench on Wednesday, but didn’t contribute much. A move away is best for all parties.

Speaking in his press conference, Rodgers was asked if Palma would be leaving before the window shuts. [Celtic TV]

“Yes. Yes, there’s a possibility for Luis to be leaving and I would expect that to go through.”

Asked on the type of deal:

“A loan with an option, yes.”

The Honduran winger only arrived at Celtic 18 months ago, signing from Aris Thessaloniki in a £3.5m deal. Despite showing flashes of quality, including key goals in the Champions League, his form has been inconsistent, leading to Rodgers sanctioning a move away.

The loan deal includes an option for Olympiacos to make the move permanent, although the exact fee has yet to be confirmed.

With Jota returning to the club, Palma’s exit frees up space in the squad as Rodgers reshapes his attacking options. The Hoops boss has been active in the final days of the window, but it remains to be seen if any further signings will be made before Monday’s deadline. A left-back and a striker is thought to be on the club’s shopping list.
