Free Agent Dutch Defender Makes Celtic Transfer Claim

ALEXANDER BUTTNER claims Celtic were interested in signing him this summer after the defender’s Vitesse contract expired.

The Dutchman once played for Manchester United and has played in Russia, Belgium and Holland since.

The defender predominantly plays left-back and it would stand to reason Celtic might have got in touch with his representatives at some point in the window to look at a potential deal. As he finally signs with New England Revolution in the MLS – the Dutch defender claims a whole host of clubs were interested and even Rangers late on.

“Vitesse wanted to keep me and there was a three-year deal on offer, but we couldn’t figure it out.” Büttner told GelderLander.

“Besiktas then put in a concrete offer but that fell through.

“Fenerbahce, PAOK, Apoel Nicosia and Celtic were all interested.

“This week Rangers and Stoke City became interested.

“But the decision had already been made. Revolution it is.”

Celtic were looking for not one but two left backs in the summer after the departure of both Emilio Izaguirre and Kieran Tierney. They signed Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor in those positions. Boli currently first choice left-back while Greg Taylor is yer to make an appearance.
