Fraser Forster Opens Up On Celtic Summer Decision

Fraser Forster has opened up on his decision not to return to Celtic and remain at Southampton this season for the first time.

The Englishman was heavily linked with a move back to Glasgow last summer after a successful loan spell at the club. However, Forster chose to remain down south and has recently opened up on Southampton’s official club website as to why he made that decision.

“To go and play 50, 60 games was fantastic.
“It was easy for me to go back there as it’s another club I have a fantastic relationship with.
“A lot of the staff were the same as my first time there, so it was like I’d never left. It was a great year, I had some great games.
“I got some game time and felt I just reminded people what I can do. I had a fantastic year there, won trophies and did well in Europe.

“I made the decision in the summer that I wanted to come back here and fight for my place.
“I’ve had to bide my time and the FA Cup has been crucial to that, but I got my head down and worked hard.”

Last summer, if you were to ask any Celtic fan which Southampton Loanee they believe will remain at the club this season, I am sure the majority would have believed Forster would be that player and not Mohamed Elyounoussi.

The goalkeeping position has been far from perfect this season with three separate keepers having their shot in between the sticks with none of them proving themselves to be a standout number one for the club.

At the same time, it hasn’t worked out for Forster, who has been restricted to mainly cup games for his current side.

It will be interesting to see whether the club chooses to recruit in the keeper position come the summer. One player who probably won’t be back at Parkhead though is Fraser Forster.
