Former goalkeeper turned pundit Paul Robinson has made the claim Celtic are likely to be priced out of a move for Fraser Forster this summer.
The pundit citing a £10m fee put in Fraser’s head by his parent club Southampton which would all but end Celtic’s chance of singing the Englishman permanently.
We’re not sure where he’s getting the figure from but it isn’t out with the realms of possibility.
Robinson believes this would be unfair, considering Fraser couldn’t even make the St Mary’s bench eight months ago.
“It is an unrealistic price tag put on him by Southampton. He is a player that was frozen out, not even in the squad and clearly was not wanted.” Robinson told Football Insider.
“Credit to the player who has gone up and rejuvenated his career. He has played extremely well and got the number one shirt.”
“It seemed as if he had lost his desire at Southampton after signing that long-term deal. He barely played again.”
“But he has done really well at Celtic, and he is key to a lot of what they have done this year. His performances have been excellent.”
“It is unfair on Celtic to ask them to pay £10million for a player who was not in the Southampton squad eight months ago. It is Southampton’s prerogative, but it could price him out of a move to Celtic.”
Forster has been outstanding in his return to the club. He was more than a significant factor in the League Cup Final and was incredible during our European run.
The goalkeeper insists he’s all about playing football now — but it’s Southampton are calling the shots and insist on a substantial fee — Celtic need a new first-team goalkeeper. Scott Bain would likely get his chance to cement his place in the side.
