Celtic women’s manager Fran Alonso is geared up to make history with his ghirls this evening in Norway.
The Hoops are in the Champions League for the first time in their history and will participate in a mini tournament hosted by Copenhagen.
Round One sees a series of mini tournaments to determine who gets though to the next round of the competition. In Celtic’s bracket is Levante, who they play this evening, Minsk and Copenhagen.
If Celtic can get past Levante they will play the winners of the tie between Copenhagen and Minsk for a place in round 2.
Celtic qualified for the competition after a relentless end to last season. They were tipped to come third behind Glasgow City and Rangers women. They came second and took the title to the last day of the season.
Getting into the Champions League is a major step for the club and something these players haven’t experienced before.
Fran and his side can’t wait for 5pm this evening.
Speaking to Celtic fan media, the coach said: “Its been a long wait since wee qualified but we’re very excited and looking forward to kick-off. I wish we were playing in the morning but its the reward for a very hard year on and off the field and we’re looking forward for the girls to experience that.
“We can control what we can control. They have a high calibre of player and they’re very experienced, but it’s 11v11 and one game. It’s 90 minutes and we’ve shown in the past that we have clear game plans and we can execute them well. We know it will be the best opponent we will have faced, but I just want the players to enjoy the experience.”
You can watch the game on Premier Sports and BBC Alba at 5pm this evening.
