Fran Alonso could be set for Celtic exit

Celtic Women’s team manager Fran Alonso is reportedly considering a move away from Glasgow due to budgetary frustrations, with Mexican side Monterrey emerging as a potential destination.

Alonso, who has overseen Celtic’s recent successes in women’s football, is being targeted by Las Rayadas following the transition of their previous coach, Eva Espejo, to a boardroom role, reports RecordSport.

Alonso’s tenure at Celtic has been marked by significant achievements, including taking the team within striking distance of their first Scottish Women’s Premier League title last season, only to be narrowly outdone by Glasgow City. He also led the team to a Scottish Cup victory in a memorable final against Rangers and a League Cup.

Despite these successes, it’s understood that Alonso has faced challenges with the financial limitations at Celtic, which may influence his decision to consider opportunities elsewhere.

You can hardly blame the manager for his frustrations, Celtic simply don’t invest enough in the women’s side.

Celtic play Spartans in the last game of the year, but it could also be Alonso’s last game in the dugout.
