CELTIC will be hitting a reset in the summer, it’s the extent of the reset which is up for debate.

Andy Walker has been picking over the bones of this season so far and surprisingly tells Celtic fans all is not lost. Walker, who is more known for talking the club down believes Dermot Desmond could be lining up some surprises after this poor season to make sure there’s no drop off in season tickets next term.

Walker looks to the two most recent times the club have been down on their luck and the movement which came from the majority shareholder. After the John Barnes debacle, Martin O’Neill was brought in to usher a new age of success at the club. After being beaten

Writing in his Sky Sports Column Walker wrote: “Whoever comes in on and off the park has a huge job in front of them. Clearly, loan players like Diego Laxalt, Mo Elyounoussi and Shane Duffy will go back to their parent clubs.

“Others like Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham, Kristofer Ajer and Ryan Christie could be sold. Captain Scott Brown won’t play as often.

“It’s a huge challenge for the club to get back to winning ways. But if Dermot Desmond can source good, strong leadership in the boardroom to set up a new structure at the club, all is not lost.”

The Celtic job is unique and can have a large appeal if the right pieces are in place. However, an overbearing Chief Executive makes the job less palatable to many.

When potential candidates do their due diligence, they will go to the likes of Brendan Rodgers and ask them how he got on within the setup and even Neil Lennon.

The current Celtic manager is no fool and will have a good idea he won’t last past the summer given his team’s shortcomings this year. Sometimes change is needed and while the Irishman has been a faithful servant, we can’t see the board sticking with Neil when it comes to renewal season.

As for the players likely to head out, we can’t argue with Walker’s list; it seems pretty spot on.
